The external id is linked to a product of another kind than the one in the body. The kind of a product never changes.

The body sends the wrong kind.

Send the kind of the linked product, as GET /v1/products?source=...&external_id=... returns it.

The article really changed kind in your system.

Remove the link of the external id from the old product, then create the new product with it.
